E9x Carbon Fiber Plenum - How did it all start?

At EAE Design, our goal is to design, create, and manufacture products that enthusiasts will love and enjoy. We aim to cultivate an environment within our team that encourages faster, easier, and more efficient product development. As BMW E9x M3 owners ourselves, we chose the E9x Carbon Fiber Plenum as our inaugural project.

Why?

The existing lineup of plenums for the E9x M3 suffers from:

  • High pricing
  • Offshore manufacturing in China
  • Lack of creativity in design
  • Extended wait times for delivery

The Birth of the Plenum:

We initiated the development of the E9x Carbon Fiber Plenum in June 2022. Our team of designers and engineers employed 3D scanning, modeling, and printing techniques to eventually create a design that surpassed all quality and performance standards. Specifically, we used pre-impregnated carbon fiber for the body of the plenum, anodized T6 6061 aluminum for the flanges and velocity stacks, and Lexan Glass for the plenum cover. This allows our customers and fellow enthusiasts to visually appreciate the internal components.

After finalizing our CAD models and drawings, we transitioned into the prototyping phase. The creation of the initial mold took several weeks, a testament to the level of detail and craftsmanship involved. We invested in multiple molds upfront to ensure seamless production.

Upon mold completion, we conducted final tests and initiated full-scale production.

The Specs:

  • Fabricated from Prepreg Twill 2x2 Carbon Fiber, complemented by a UV-resistant base clear coat and PPG urethane.
  • Features 6061 T6 Billet Aluminum Anodized velocity stacks, customizable to your style preference.
  • Lexan Glass cover allows visibility into the intricately designed velocity stacks.
  • Enhanced structural integrity and reliability.
  • Proudly made in the USA.
